Tuldys was started because I saw a need for a product. Actually I saw the need twenty five years ago but I let twenty years pass before doing anything about it. Somewhere around a quarter century ago when I was freshman in college, I attempted to make homemade enchiladas for my roommates. I used the only available enchilada sauce on the market ( canned ) and cheddar cheese and they were awful! It was then I noticed that need. How about an edible enchilada sauce that people could make at home? Well, Like I said, I let twenty years pass before I attempted to correct this glaring fault in our society. When my youngest started Kindergarten, it left me no one to play with during the day ( I have a real job that affords me lots of time off) so I sat out to develop my sauce. I approached a wholesale spice company and told them of my plight. They were very helpful and soon I had developed a dry powder that when mixed with water, made a delicious sauce that would rival my favorite Texmex restaurant here in Austin. Just for grins I entered the sauce in the annual product competition sponsored by Chile Pepper magazine. Well there wasnt a product category even close to enchiladas sauce, so I entered seasonings and rubs. Obviously a bar-b-q category. But guess what? We took third place. Not bad for a product without a category! Well, that was 1999 and since then weve developed several more products and won lots of those national awards.
