Lake Superior Fish Company in Food Directory

Lake Superior Fish Company is a retailer of fresh, frozen and smoked fish. The firm traces its roots back to the late nineteenth century... In 1892 Severin (Sam) Sivertson, with his two brothers, emigrated from Norway and settled with his family on Lake Superiors north shore. He soon joined the fishing communities on Isle Royale, an archepelago located in northern Lake Superior, where he found one of the lakes richest sources of prime lake trout, herring, whitefish and ciscoes. In 1921, Sam established Sivertson Fisheries in Duluth to extend the markets for the catch of the Isle Royale and North Shore fishermen. In 1941, the business was passed on to his two sons, and was re-named Sivertson Brothers Fisheries. Beginning in the mid-1940s they established a summer freight, mail and passenger service to Isle Royale National Park. They continued to support fishery production for trout, herring and smelt out of the port of Duluth. In the 1960s Sivertson Fisheries expanded its retail fish marketing under the Lake Superior Fish Company banner. Its fish production, processing, sales and fishery support enterprises became specialized into what are now known as Lake Superior Fish Company and Grand Portage-Isle Royale Transportation Line. The Sivertson family involvement continues, having been passed on to two of Severins grandchildren and their families.
