Walkerswood Caribbean Foods (WCF) in Food Directory

Registered in 1978, the company started life as part of a rural community’s effort to create employment for its people. It now has a full time staff of over 150. With the growing demand for spicy food, Walkerswood developed its own Jerk Seasoning and was the first company to export Jerk Seasoning from Jamaica. Since then, our range of products has grown to over 20 and includes popular sauces such as Coconut Rundown, Escoveitch Pickle Sauce as well as Ackee for Jamaicas national dish. These products have brought ease and convenience to preparing tasty Caribbean meals. In keeping with our commitment to authenticity and quality, raw materials are purchased fresh from local farmers across the island. Peppers are also bought from the Walkerswood Farmers Group, the village community farm, which the company helped to organize. Our own farm, Green Adventures, helps provide scallion, another essential ingredient. 9 years ago, we opened our first restaurant, Bamboula, in the heart of Brixton, London. This has proved very popular and a useful showcase. As Caribbean cuisine grows in popularity, Bamboula has helped to expand our outreach into the cross-over market. Walkerswood has brought out two cookbooks written by Virginia Burke and published by Simon and Schuster. The first, Caribbean Kitchen, developed traditional recipes using Walkerswood products and is already into its third print run!. The second, Eat Caribbean, was published last year to acclaim on both sides of the Atlantic. It gives a history of the development of Caribbean food and a background description of local ingredients as well as mouth watering recipes from many islands. It is currently the best selling cookbook in Jamaica.
