In 1925 the three Lewis brothers, Amos, Armold and Jack, mortgaged their mothers house for $300 and opened a bakery in a cabin in southern Illinois. In the earliest days bread was baked by only the three brothers, who delivered it daily to individual homes nearby. They took some of each days proceeds to purchase flour for the next days bread. Today, the Lewis family of bakeries provides fresh bakery products throughout the Midwest and frozen bakery products nationwide.
