Since inception in 1989, durrett cheese sales,inc. Has grown to be a company with annual sales of over eighteen million pounds of cheese. We are located 60 miles southeast of nashville, tennessee on interstate 24. Our primary function is a converter of cheese. This simply means that we do not make cheese; instead we convert the cheese into a size and package that is acceptable to the end-user. For instance, our swiss cheese is produced in 200 pound blocks and shipped to us. We convert the swiss into a variety of slice and shred sizes depending on what our customers are requesting. The manchester plant produces slices, shreds, cubes, dices and chunks. We package cheese in sizes ranging from 4 ounces to 15 pounds each, according to customer needs. All of our domestic cheeses are made to our specifications by cheese plants located primarily in the upper mid-west, most of which are co-ops. Due to the nature of our business and the type of equipment in our plant, our specs are tighter than those of many other cheese companies. The benefit to our customer is a more consistent product week in and week out. Working with a variety of plants allows us to utilize the strengths of each, resulting in a much stronger product line than would be possible if working with only one or two plants. Our manchester plant opened in june 2000 and covers 30,000 square feet. As a result, we have plenty of additional capacity. Our labor market is very favorable and being centrally located provides easy service accessibility to the entire southeastern united states.
